Summary Report - May 2008

iRise conducted an online survey of IT professionals from various size companies to uncover issues that internal technology organizations are facing when specifying software applications.

Conducted in May 2008 the survey was completed by IT professionals across the nation. The results of this survey illustrate that there continues to be a significant set of problems within most IT organizations when it comes to communicating with the business and accurately specifying business software.

2nd Annual iRise CIO Survey

Executive Summary Report - September 2006

Software development projects face cost overruns, delays, outright cancellations and low user acceptance. iRise offers a dramatically simple and effective solution to these problems - an innovative enterprise software platform that enables business and IT analysts to quickly simulate and "test market" business applications before a single line of code is written. As the iRise team seeks to increase the overall value provided by its service, they must have a clear understanding of the pain points IT executives encounter during the application development process.

The objectives of the present study were to:
• Identify the role of innovation and its impact on new projects
• Identify challenges surrounding application definition

A total of 200 qualified respondents completed the survey. All were screened to match the following criteria:
• Worked for an organization that had completed a business application in the last 2 years
• Worked for an organization with total 2005 revenues of $750 Million or more
• Held one of the following job titles:
  • CIO
  • CTO
  • VP/Director IT
  • VP/Director Program Management Office

The impact of rework - April 2005

Rework, otherwise known as cost over-runs or change orders, is an endemic problem facing nearly every IT organization that develops applications for business. The numbers are astounding. Among the findings, this survey uncovered:

• Over 80% of organizations claim to finish projects within budget, yet almost three quarters (73%) budget for rework, thus, in effect, planning to fail
• Almost a third set aside more than 25% in their budgets for change orders, which could have been avoided in the first place
• The average delay for late projects was over 6 months.
