iRise earned its first U.S. patent for innovation in software visualization in 2007, and has continued to break new ground in this area, receiving further patents in 2008 and 2011, and filing other pending applications in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Taken together, these advances provide the groundwork for new features that help iRise users transform the way they create new business applications, promoting early collaboration for results that delight users, cost less to create, virtually eliminate rework, and are ready for final deployment up to 50 percent faster.
iRise was awarded its first U.S. patent, no. 7,174,286, by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO). The patent covers iRise's invention for the systems and methods for defining a simulated interactive Web page. Similar to computer-aided design (CAD) tools for other industries, simulations built with iRise act as visual blueprints for specifying complex business applications. The patent was awarded on Feb. 6, 2007.
The invention covered by this patent is the use of a graphical, drag-and-drop interface to allow non-technical users to define functionally rich simulations - without resorting to software code to generate them. The state-of-the-art prior to iRise's invention was to repurpose tools and languages originally created for production software development to create 'prototypes'. With this invention, the user is shielded from learning keywords, complex syntax and other challenging requirements common in programming and scripting languages. The patent also protects certain specific implementations of our "alternate view" and "reusable master" features.
iRise has been awarded a second U.S. patent by the U.S. Patent Trademark Office (PTO), no. US 7,349,837 B2. The iRise patent covers the "systems and methods for a programming environment for a simulation of a computer application." This patent primarily concerns editing and association of text-based requirements in context with visual simulations in iRise Studio, which is the authoring tool used to create interactive, high fidelity visualizations of business applications. The patent was awarded on March 25th, 2008.
Specifically, the patent covers these areas:
- Showing a graphical programming area for a simulation;
- Showing text requirements at the same time;
- Allowing the user to associate text requirements with elements of the simulation; and,
- Storing such association for future reference.
The patented functions give simulation authors the ability to tightly couple visual simulations with written business requirements to ensure they are in sync.
iRise has been awarded a third U.S. patent by the U.S. Patent Trademark Office (PTO), number US 7,788,647. The iRise patent covers the "systems and methods for collaborative programming of simulations of computer programs." This patent primarily concerns itself with the real-time collaborative development of interactive visualizations. iRise permits multiple, geographically distributed enterprise team members to create and edit visualizations simultaneously - and allows distributed stakeholders to immediately see the impact of changes. Feedback from multiple stakeholders is also available to visualization authors on a real time basis.
iRise has been awarded a fourth U.S. patent by the U.S. Patent Trademark Office (PTO), number US 7,861,158. The iRise patent is titled "System and process for gathering, recording and validating requirements for computer applications." The patent broadly covers using visualization and traditional text based requirements to validate the accuracy and completeness of such requirements.
iRise's patent portfolio is expected to grow further with three other patent applications under review by the U.S. PTO, and similar submissions with the European Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) office.
