New iPad Content iDoc Now Available
Jumpstart Your Mobile Simulations
We've just released a new iDoc that should help jump start your iPad visualization projects. The iPad Mobile Content iDoc for iRise 8.9 contains both static and interactive elements that are designed to help you quickly get started building simulations of iPad apps. The collection includes interactive buttons, popovers, alert messages, text inputs, complete working toolbars, static and dynamic lists, and many other elements found on the iPad.

As with all iDocs, it's very simple to use. Just import the iDoc into an existing project or use it as a starting point for a new one. If you import iDocs, you'll be able to choose whether you'd like to import the entire collection or just select elements from within it.

We've also continued to enhance our iPhone Content iDoc. We've recently added a number of interactive widgets and mobile iBlocs that will help you quickly build impressive iPhone simulations.

Both are free! Download now!

Private Beta: iConnect for Analytics

Are you an iRise customer or partner skilled in Javascript, HTML or reporting tools such as Business Objects or StyleVision? If so, we’d like to talk to you about a great opportunity to participate in a new private beta program centered on building iConnect extensions that mine the data in the Definition Center for valuable new insights.

Working with the iRise Product Definition and Engineering team, participants will get early access to iConnect API calls and work closely with the iRise team to try the new capabilities and provide feedback. Participants also have the option of being recognized for their contributions in the iRise Newsletter and possibly other venues.

The beta activity will ramp up early next year and run for a few months as we continue to introduce new iConnect capabilities to support analytics. This is a great opportunity to get advanced knowledge of future product capabilities and to help define the iConnect API capabilities.

If you are interested in participating, please email beta@irise.com.

CodeGen 2.0 Debuts Just in Time to Start New-Year Projects

If you’re looking for a quick way to jump-start an upcoming 2012 project, check out iRise CodeGen 2.0. When you’ve got a final prototype, it’s easy to use the new software to create most of the UI code for your application, eliminating much of the manual work involved in creating screens and forms that conform to your company’s standard practices and branding guidelines.

The second major release of CodeGen offers significant customer-requested enhancements, some of which surfaced during the CodeGen Beta program conducted earlier this year. These include the following capabilities:

  • You can now create templates for every type of iRise interaction—both visual and non-visual—keying off names or styles to determine which code snippets are used. You can use any iRise parameter, and the code itself can be anything you choose, making it easy to map to existing development standards.
  • By popular demand, we’ve included new support for the fast-growing world of iBlocs, which are predefined components that work within the iRise rapid visual prototyping platform. Because an iBloc is a way of exposing and integrating production code within an iRise visualization, it makes sense for CodeGen to also convert iBlocs back into code, and this is also easily accomplished via templates.
  • Other enhancements to the product include improved alignment with industry best practices for creating maintainable user interface code, and improved mapping for Cascading Style Sheets.

iBlocs Cut Development Time, Are a Big Hit With App Developers

We've been busy creating and improving iBlocs—our predefined, packaged components—and some of our partners have been as well! Here are some of the highlights:

New:

  • Video Player: Makes it easy to embed video in your simulation
  • iPhone Tab Bar: Lets you easily simulate tab or button navigation typically found at the bottom of iPhone Apps
  • iPad Popover Action Sheet: Makes it a breeze to simulate a popover action sheet typically found on an iPad
  • iPad Popover Select: Helps you simulate a popup menu often seen on the iPad. You can define the list of options as well as the location of the arrow to make it point to the "trigger" UI element
  • Orientation Event iBloc (from id8): The new Orientation iBloc lets you capture and use the "on orientation change" event on your mobile simulations to trigger subsequent actions in simulation.
  • Side Panel iBloc (from id8): Lets you move any iRise widget beyond the top and left boundaries of the page, with or without animation. For example, use this widget to create a navigation panel that can slide on and off screen from the top or left edge of the browser.

Improved:

  • iPhone On-Off Switch: Now has an "iOS 5" option that makes it look like the iOS 5 on/off switch
  • Google Map: Now supports custom pin icons, callouts and more
  • Horizontal and Vertical Slider: Have been enhanced to work with swipe interactions on iOS devices
  • Liquid Layout (from id8): Now lets you "float" elements relative to the right edge of the browser
  • Scroll Lock (from id8): Now includes the ability to anchor elements centrally, vertically and/or horizontally. It also lets you affix elements to the bottom edge of the browser window

We've also updated the compatibility for most iRise and Partner iBlocs so that they work with iRise 8.9. Check the iBloc Marketplace on iRise.com for the latest, and be sure to sign up for notification on community.irise.com for future updates.

Never miss another iBloc update! Make sure to sign up for notifications at the iRise Community (see image for details) and you'll always be in the know.

iRise Community Site Reaches Major Milestone

Since its debut at this year's Fusion, traffic has been increasing at the iRise community site, as users learn that they can rely on the site for implementation help, links to free downloads, news about iRise, and the help and fellowship and experience of other iRise users. This month, the site has reached and exceeded the 600-post mark, in part due to the excitement generated by the release of a new Mac Beta, new mobile prototyping capabilities for iPhones and the final version of iRise 8.9.

The iRise community site is located at http://community.irise.com/irise.

iRise Wows at SAP SAPPHIRE NOW in Madrid

“Hug A Suit” was the theme at SAPPHIRE NOW & TechEd Madrid, SAP’s premier business technology conference on November 9 & 10, where SAP combined 6,000 “techie” and business leaders under one roof. iRise was onsite, networking with more than 6,000 “techies” and “suits” (SAP customers, partners and SAP executives) to show how software visualization can positively impact the blueprinting process for SAP and non-SAP solutions, and help accelerate custom and mobile application development.

iRise CEO and Co-founder Emmet B. Keeffe III and Andy Pearman of National Grid hosted an engaging roundtable, to tell how National Grid, an international electricity and gas firm and one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world, leveraged SAP Application Visualization by iRise to accelerate time to value by improving communication between business and IT around requirements for wide range of SAP solutions.
