General Motors has announced they are deploying iRise enterprise-wide, using visual modeling technology to simulate the user experience of software applications before their actual use. It will allow users to actually see and experience how IT systems work even before these systems are developed. GM is incorporating this transformative technology into its global processes to produce simulations that develop more user-friendly IT systems.
GM has already implemented a number of business applications built from this modeling process that have accelerated time-to-market, cut project costs and increased the adoption of applications. On average, visual modeling reduced project duration by 10 percent and the projects received very high customer satisfaction ratings.
Ultimately, IT visual modeling is expected to bring more benefits to GM through faster implementation of systems and through adoption of innovative applications that will support the transformation of the company.
“For a century, GM has successfully and consistently built high quality cars and trucks by first creating product simulations or models,” said Fred Killeen, Chief Systems & Technology Officer at General Motors. “Applying this expertise to visual modeling of software enables GM to deliver increasingly collaborative, innovative and user-centric products to our employees and customers. We are glad to be working with a strong ecosystem of partners to standardize IT visual modeling across our enterprise and the industry.”

Visualizing Extensions to Enterprise Applications |
|
| Corey Glickman, Principal Capgemini
This Web seminar is a must-see for anyone that is faced with extending enterprise applications like SAP and Oracle. Taking advantage of new and powerful capabilities being offered from SAP and Oracle can be challenging. The ability to quickly visualize and validate extensions to these applications with business stakeholders and users prior to expensive investments in coding is essential to ensure the right project outcomes. This session will focus on the use of a Rapid Design & Visualization approach to achieving this goal; showing how to speed up agreement on business needs, while managing risk and reducing rework typically experienced during an ERP implementation.
Using specific customer case studies featuring SAP and Oracle, Corey Glickman from Capgemini will lead a discussion on the following topics:
- Extending enterprise applications: the challenges
- Balancing standards and localizations
- Problem identification of gray process areas within ERP implementations
- Using visualization to avoid risk when configuring an ERP solution
- How to engage a global system integrator in the process

Arizona State University Adopts iRise for Advanced Requirements Engineering Curriculum and Entrepreneurship |

Software visualization skills considered vital for graduating business leaders
Arizona State University at the Polytechnic Campus’ (ASU Poly) Division of Computing Studies is now making software visualization a significant part of the Software Enterprise requirements engineering curriculum. Students are now using iRise on a broad range of real-world projects designed to teach fundamental requirements elicitation and simulation skills that will be vital as they progress from the academic world into the working world. Some of these projects are helping to visualize early stage business ideas that may one day turn into real companies through the entrepreneurship program at ASU Poly.
ASU Poly has configured iRise authoring stations for both undergraduate and graduate use; all connected to the iRise Definition Center to facilitate project collaboration both within the University and with outside partners. Although participants in the program are geographically dispersed, they can all work together in real time using the iRise Definition Center – a secure, shared server resource that makes it easy to work on the same simulations at the same time and collaborate on class and entrepreneurial projects.
“The ability to simulate and visualize software with the latest technology has become an essential skill for our students that soon will be entering the workforce,” stated Kevin Gary, assistant professor, Division of Computing Studies, Arizona State University. “Future business leaders with a deep background in software visualization are fundamentally more marketable to companies that need to quickly innovate.”
