Iowa Workforce Development Modernizes with iRise Visualization

Redesigned state tax system replaces legacy mainframe application; New Web-based system delivered faster, with no rework

El Segundo, Calif. - April 28, 2009 - iRise®, the world's leading visualization solutions company, today announced that the Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), a state agency that links job placement and skill development into a system of lifelong learning and opportunity, has leveraged iRise on a $20 million project to modernize the state tax system for unemployment insurance. The new Web-based application replaces a legacy mainframe system and is designed to help employers, accountants and payroll firms manage unemployment insurance tax accounts. The new system also gives internal IWD employees an easier way to access and manage the unemployment insurance tax system.

"iRise visualization solves the fundamental disconnect that can happen between business and IT," stated Erich Grubert, Business Project Director at IWD. "The static text documents and screen shots we used before iRise caused delays and confusion on critical modernization efforts. Now we can get everyone on the same page quickly and virtually eliminate reworking the solution once it's coded, saving us time and money."

The Iowa unemployment insurance tax system is a software application that employers and third party providers use to manage their unemployment insurance accounts. The system gives users the ability to provide wage information, make payments and make adjustments to their accounts. Internal IWD employees use the system for functions like accounting, auditing, collections activity and CRM workflow. The legacy version of the application was mainframe based, making it difficult to use and expensive to support.

The new Web-based application was visualized prior to development by management analysts at IWD, who created high fidelity designs using iRise and then shared the working, interactive mock-ups with business stakeholders and users to gain better understanding of system requirements.

"Government agencies at all levels are embarking on massive modernization efforts in order to improve citizen access and streamline operations," said Mitch Bishop, CMO at iRise. "Visualization is a proven, powerful ally in ensuring these projects deliver the necessary results with a minimum of cost and time."
