Austin Energy Selects iRise Enterprise Visualization

Business stakeholders 'test drive' critical projects before coding

EL SEGUNDO, CA - March 9, 2010 - iRise®, the global leader in enterprise visualization solutions today announced that Austin Energy has chosen iRise to visualize two mission-critical software projects: an online customer care portal slated to go live in 2011 and a complex reporting interface to a new 'Power Saver' portal designed to boost energy efficiency initiatives. By visualizing before development, Austin Energy will be streamlining definition and delivery while at the same time conducting full cycle usability testing early in the process to ensure customer adoption.

The new customer care portal is designed to improve consumer access and will be integrated with the city's electric, water and waste-collection operations and other city operations. The goal is to provide a single point of contact for customers for all utility-based products and services. When combined with the new 'smart' meters the city has deployed, the new customer care portal will also provide consumers with real-time information on their energy consumption, empowering customers to better manage their energy usage and lower their monthly bills.

Prior to the use of iRise, business analysts at Austin Energy would document application requirements using text, use case diagrams, story boards and static screen shots. With the use of iRise, users are more easily able to review and collaborate around requirements, reducing requirement cycle times.

Business analysts now use iRise to quickly assemble working models of software projects that empower key stakeholders to 'test drive' the applications to make sure that the right requirements were captured. Austin Energy uses iRise as part of a rapid, iterative development process where the visualizations enable the team to tackle the high risk areas of the application first. The visualizations position the team to develop courseware for new applications ahead of time - before any coding happens.

iRise visualizations have also become the method by which Austin Energy communicates with its outsourcing partners on these projects. Visualizations are a valuable guide to an outsourcing partner that reduces confusion and helps ensures that the right software gets built.

"Austin Energy is a leader in deploying smart electric grids and deploying a new model for customer involvement," said Mitch Bishop, CMO for iRise. "Like many organizations, Austin Energy is visualizing innovation early in the process, which promises to get these projects to market sooner, with greater confidence."
