iRise 8 Enterprise Visualization Ships

New capabilities empower businesses to visualize broader range of applications faster, with higher fidelity; includes open API for extensions and integrations

EL SEGUNDO, CA - April 5, 2010 - iRise®, the global leader in enterprise visualization solutions today announced the immediate availability of iRise 8, the next major release of its market leading enterprise-grade visualization platform for business. New capabilities in iRise 8 focus on accelerating the time to visualization for both custom and packaged applications, making it easier to administer geographically disperse teams of authors and reviewers, and opening up Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that enable customers and third-party providers to create visualization extensions and integrations.

"We have experienced dramatic growth in our services business, with both government and commercial clients, because of increased demand for our expertise in iRise," stated Scott McDowell, founder of OneSpring, an iRise partner. "We expect the new custom extension and content capabilities in iRise 8 to create new revenue opportunities for us, and at the same time further accelerate our customers' success."

  • Drag and Drop Support Speeds Time to Visualize Rich Internet Applications
Drag and drop interactions like those seen in modern portals, email interfaces, movable pop-ups, and file organizers can now be visualized with a few simple clicks, saving hours of time and providing a richer experience to stakeholders and more usable applications to customers. For the first time 'fat client' interactions can be simulated effortlessly, expanding the use of iRise to the full spectrum of complex application interfaces.
  • iRise Content Modules Can Be Created, License-Protected and Distributed
The iRise 8 Definition Center now supports the distribution of third-party pre-packaged and licensed visualization content. The intellectual property contained within visualizations can be protected and licensed to a specific Definition Center and can only be modified by a set of authorized iRise Studio users. Companies and individuals interested in developing and marketing iRise Content Modules (for specific technology solutions, industries, or application types) to the iRise customer and partner community should contact iRise for details.
  • iBloc™ Plug-in API Extends Capabilities and Speeds Time to Visualization
The iBloc™ Plug-in API allows partners and customers to create custom user interface (UI) controls and behaviors that can be incorporated into visualizations and re-used across the enterprise. Alternatively, companies that have already developed a standard library of UI controls can quickly package them as iBlocs for use in iRise visualizations, or leverage the thousands of freely available controls from open source libraries like jQuery and Dojo to accelerate the process. iBlocs hide complexity and thus dramatically reduce the time required by non-technical users to visualize complex interactions or industry-specific business logic and behaviors. They can be bundled into iRise Content Modules as well as included in corporate pattern libraries, sets of pre-configured visualization elements that enforce branding and best practices for usability across organizations.
  • Collaboration Becomes Easier with Improved Enterprise Administration
The iRise Definition Center is the hub of global collaboration for both visualization authors and reviewers. iRise 8 Definition Center debuts a completely revamped user interface, and extends its enterprise administration capabilities to make it easier and faster to organize, share and find projects, as well as manage user groups and permissions.
  • iConnect™ API Jumpstarts Downstream Development
iRise 8 now supports the ability to export a visualization in XML format. The iConnect™ API exports the complete inventory of all atomic user interface, data and logic elements (along with their properties), and a screenshot for each page, master and scenario in the visualization. This XML output can easily be converted - programmatically or using tools - into richly-formatted specification documents and spreadsheets, integrated into downstream development or quality tools, or even transformed into development assets such as HTML or code.

"In the wake of a challenging economy and increase in complex sourcing, the demand for effective business communication and collaboration across distributed organizations enabled by requirements visualization solutions is significant," said Melinda Ballou, program director for IDC's Application Lifecycle Management service. "IDC research indicates that 70-80% of IT software project failures occur as a result of poor requirements gathering, analysis and management and the first gap in the process is poor communication - visualization can help facilitate collaboration by bridging that communication gap."

"We are advancing the state of the art for enterprise visualization. Being able to assemble and review highly-interactive visualizations of new ideas with globally-distributed stakeholders in hours, not days, is a game changer for all companies that must define and deliver mission-critical software," stated Maurice Martin, president, COO and founder of iRise. "The innovations in iRise 8 create exciting new opportunities for both our customers and partners. We invented software visualization nine years ago. With the launch of the iRise 8 enterprise visualization platform we are now poised to ignite a diverse third-party ecosystem of value-added content and services providers that will further accelerate our customers' ability to deliver innovation and project success."
