iRise Ships Code Generator

New product turns visualizations into working code, accelerating software development

EL SEGUNDO, CA - July 26, 2010 – iRise®, the global leader in enterprise visualization solutions, today announced the immediate availability of iRise CodeGen™, a new product that automatically produces working code from high fidelity visualizations, dramatically reducing application development time while at the same time improving quality.

The iRise CodeGen product can be used as a powerful head start to development once a high fidelity visualization has been assembled and validated by business stakeholders. iRise CodeGen transforms the visualization into either Java or .NET code employing best of breed frameworks and design patterns. Once the code is generated, developers fill in the remaining functionality and integrate the new code with other pieces of the application.

Many companies today employ development frameworks and design patterns when building enterprise-grade software (e.g. Struts, Spring and Hibernate in the J2EE world). Technical architectures are commonly composed of a number of these frameworks and applied consistently across different projects, ensuring that software is built from components that have been refined over many years and are considered to be "best-of-breed." iRise CodeGen leverages these same frameworks to translate visualizations into working code. The presentation layer is generated according to the user interface within the visualization. Code to process user interactions is generated in the appropriate middle tiers based on the interactions within the visualization. Database structures and the relevant data access layers are generated based on datasheets and values. Once the code is generated, developers fill in the remaining functionality and integrate with the other pieces of the application.

The iRise CodeGen product does not remove the need for developers and it does not produce 100% complete code. However, the savings associated with generating a code base for the user interface portions of an application can be significant, often saving weeks or even months of time.
