iRise Expands Partnership with BEA Systems to Provide Integrated Definition and Development Solution for Improved Communication Between Business and IT

Joint Solution Designed to Help Business Users and Developers More Effectively Communicate for Shorter Development Cycles, Cost Savings and Increased Competitive Advantage

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - March 23, 2004 - iRise (www.irise.com), a leading enterprise software and services company dedicated to bridging the communication gap between business and IT, today announced that it has expanded its partnership with BEA Systems (Nasdaq: BEAS) to provide an integrated definition and development solution. The two companies are building upon their technology partnership to help provide customers with a new generation of application lifecycle management. Through the integration of the iRise Application Simulator™ and BEA WebLogic Workshop 8.1™, the companies plan to deliver a solution that is designed to enable business users and developers to more effectively communicate during the application development process-resulting in faster development cycles, additional cost savings, and increased competitive advantage.

As customized applications are the number one source of corporate asset creation in the United States today1, organizations are in need of solutions that can enable them to improve the success rate of these projects, which often fail due to poor communication between business users and developers. In fact, the process of defining, developing and deploying customized applications has become so complex, that more than 4 out of 5 software projects fail because of poorly defined requirements.2 By partnering, iRise and BEA can help enable organizations to move from text-based requirements to a visual definition and development environment, in which business users and developers can simulate and preview applications before time and resources are spent toward development. As a result, target customers can realize a number of key business benefits, including:
  • Development projects can be completed on time and on budget
  • Business users can receive customized applications that perform as they were intended
  • Developers can receive improved direction and active involvement from business users throughout the entire development process
  • Organizations can benefit from increased competitive differentiation, and a technology solution that is designed to simultaneously cut cost and improve communication between business and IT

"We're pleased to have iRise expand their partnership with BEA," said Scott Edgington, vice president and general manager of worldwide channels and alliances, BEA Systems, Inc. "iRise and BEA can offer our customers an integrated definition and development solution, which can help enable faster time to value by providing developers with direct access to clear, stable specifications from which to develop. We look forward to a lasting, productive partnership with iRise."

The iRise Application Simulator integration to BEA WebLogic Workshop 8.1 is designed to enhance communication between business users and IT by helping WebLogic Workshop programmers trace to the reference simulation that acts as the stable, yet interactive, specification blueprint for their development tasks. It can also provide visibility to those requirements that have not yet been implemented. The logic behind the integration of the two technologies is straightforward for business users and developers alike- iRise is visually modeling and simulating applications with the business user in mind, while BEA is visually modeling and developing applications aimed at corporate developers.

"Developing customized applications has become so complex, time-consuming and expensive that most companies have historically tolerated failed or stalled projects because they don't know that there's a solution to ease the pain of this process," said Emmet B. Keefe III, CEO and co-founder, iRise. "To address this critical market need, we chose to partner with market-leader BEA because our combined technologies represent a new generation of application lifecycle management-companies can test drive applications before they invest in development, dramatically reducing the time and cost involved, while helping to achieve significant competitive advantage."

The iRise Application Simulator platform is designed to provide business users with the ability to visually validate requirements and "test drive" software through an interactive simulation prior to development, thus helping to ensure that customized applications can meet the needs of the business while minimizing development time and cost. The platform can allow for the definition, testing and approval of Web-based business software before developers write the first line of code, eliminating up to 30 percent of overall development costs. Additionally, by serving as a common communications medium at the earliest stages of the development process, the iRise Application Simulator can help organizations dramatically reduce the risks associated with offshore outsourcing-bridging gaps in language, time zones, and cultures to help ensure that organizations realize the true business benefits of outsourcing.
