Security Leader Speeds Innovation to Secure Competitive Advantage
iRise simulation compresses testing cycles by 50%
"iRise introduced major improvements to the process. Relationships between business and IT were improved because stakeholders had better conversations earlier in the process, eliminating questions over expectations."
– VP of Applications, Trucking, ATM and Global Shipping Division
Background
This customer is the global leader in business and security services, operating 650 branches in 50 countries on six continents. One of its subsidiaries generates 85% of the company's $2.8B annual revenue, providing a range of secure logistics solutions for banks and retailers. The customer has distinguished itself with an intense commitment to technological innovation,
resulting in an impressive track record of groundbreaking solutions that have redefined the industry.
Challenge
Stemming from the company's dedication to forward thinking and advanced technology, this customer embarked upon an initiative to replace its legacy systems across the enterprise. First up was the upgrade of a key trucking application that tracks daily armored truck pickup and delivery from bank branches and other customers. The new tracking application employs a complex user interface based on rich user interface technology that requires a variety of right-click mouse accessible options and keyboard combinations. This interface would have been very difficult to specify with paper requirements or even wire-frame prototypes, which would have taken 6-8
weeks to build. During this time the customer was transitioning to an Agile development methodology, adding further complications to the project.
In response to these challenges, the customer's business analysts immediately set to work converting the tracking application requirements to an iRise simulation, which accurately modeled the new system's intricate interface. The simulations were built in two weeks and sent in the form of iDocs to a distributed stakeholder community for their feedback.
Result
As a direct result of avoiding a coded prototyping effort, this customer saved six person-months of effort. iRise also introduced positive transformation by significantly improving the relationship between business and IT. Leveraging the accurate simulation, project stakeholders were introduced to the application sooner and held constructive conversations earlier in the cycle. As a result, the customer saw fewer changes due to miscommunication and ambiguous requirements, which compressed testing windows and cut rework by 50%. As the customer rolled out its Agile methodology, these benefits increased in magnitude, freeing developers to focus on technical issues and produce a superior software app.
