Customer Cuts Global Registration System Requirements Time By 50%
iRise used to uncover gaps in functionality, remove unnecessary steps

Background
This customer is a global communications leader that employs over 69,000 employees worldwide and earned revenues of more than $42 billion in 2006. The customer's mobile devices division has the vision of transforming the cell phone into a universal remote control for life. Faced with a growing backlog of mission-critical projects, the division strives to rapidly produce innovative software products that meet the business requirements.

Challenge
The mobile devices team was assigned to standardize the customer's global registration process, a complex online system that supports two diverse scenarios: on the front end, consumers use the system to register purchased products; on the back end, employees access the system to customize registration scenarios. Requirements for the existing application were documented across a wide variety of formats, such as text documents, static screen wireframe images and flow diagrams, which were too cumbersome for rapid, thorough validation. The team needed to establish a "single source of truth" in order to validate requirements with the entire project team prior to development and to uphold as the de facto standard system requirements.

Result
Using iRise, the customer's mobile devices team simulated each usage scenario, enabling stakeholders to visually validate the complete global registration process. As a result of this rapid iterative process, the team quickly identified missing features and eliminated unnecessary steps. With the scenarios complete, the team created a library of reusable components to support the standardization of functionality, branding and user experience.

Evolving from ambiguous documents to a visual simulation for validating the accuracy and completeness of the requirements, the project team reduced the overall project requirements and design time by 50%, and by discovering key functionality gaps prior to development, rather than during user acceptance testing, the team avoided tens of thousands of dollars in expensive rework.
