Agilent Drives Requirements Cycle Time From 2 Months To 1 Hour
iRise simulations used to rapidly iterate designs in front of stakeholders

"With iRise, project review meetings centered on a visual, interactive simulation of the new Web site, which accelerated requirements elicitation, enabling us to cut the project definition cycle time in half and realize a measurable gain in usability. The steering committee knew precisely what the design team was planning because they could see and interact with a functionally rich model in real time."

Background
Aglient is a $5B powerhouse in the scientific instrumentation market. The fast pace of today’s global business climate requires scientists, engineers and researchers to rely on Agilent's advanced measurement equipment to stay on the cutting edge.

Challenge
A broadening and technologically complex product line, growing customer base and geographic expansion increasingly taxed Agilent's commitment to providing relevant, timely access to information. To cost-effectively meet their customers' needs, Agilent devoted considerable resources to making their Web site the central source for information about Agilent technical products and services. While Agilent's Web site design team is constantly improving site functionality, some fundamental search and navigation issues remained. In an effort to avoid potential market share loss due to customer frustration, the steering committee in charge of assuring a quality site knew something had to be done. The Web team embarked upon a project to quickly bring to market a full-scale upgrade of this vital customer-facing resource, including a simplified organization of content, streamlined navigation, improved search experience and, most importantly, a solution for merging the varying needs of multiple users into a comprehensive application. Due to the project's enormous size and critical nature, time-consuming requirements documents and text-based review meetings were simply too slow and inconsistent to drive rapid delivery of new Web site capabilities.

Result
As a solution, Agilent turned to iRise and simulated the entire upgrade without writing a single line of code. Prior to using iRise, getting business stakeholders and IT to agree on changes took up to two months. On this project it took a single, one-hour meeting because business owners were able to give valuable feedback interactively and see their changes reflected immediately.

By estimates, to achieve the same result without iRise, the project's 10 stakeholders would have participated in five hour-long meetings - 50 total hours at a cost of $100/hr. The single simulation review session alone saved $4,000 in direct costs and improved time to market by 60 days.
