Neel Jani – Driver #21

Neel Jani joins PKV Racing to pilot the #21 Red Bull-Gulfstream PKV Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgetsone machine during the 2007 Champ Car World Series season.
Jani, 23, a native of Rorschach, Switzerland, spent the 2006 season as a test and Friday (third) driver for the Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula One team. He also competed in four GP2 races (replacing the injured Nicolas Lapierre for Arden Racing) at Magny-Cours and then at Silverstone, where he became the first driver ever to run an F1 car and a GP2 car on the same day. Jani also ran four A1 Grand Prix World Cup of Motorsports events taking the win in the sprint race and finishing fourth in the feature race in Malaysia.
Jani began his career karting in 1996 at age 12 and over the next four years progressed from the mini to the junior class winning several races. In 2000, at age 16, he made the move to single-seat cars competing in the Swiss Formula A Lista Junior Championship. There he captured his first formula car title winning eight of 12 events with four second place showings.
In 2001, Jani competed in the Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup as well as participating in a number of Italian Formula Renault events. He competed in Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup again in 2002 finishing second with three wins in nine events.
Jani joined the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup series in 2003 and placed second with four wins and 12 podiums. As a result he received his first F1 test driving for the Swiss Sauber Petronas team. Jani competed in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup again in 2004, this time with the DAMS team. He placed
fourth in the final standings earning nine poles. Jani also contested a round of the FIA GT Championship at Dubai and tested for the newly formed Red Bull Racing F1 team. He subsequently was named a member of the Red Bull Junior Team.
In 2005, Jani, with the backing of Red Bull, competed in the GP2 series, which took the place of F3000. He scored two victories (Hungaroring and Monza) for the Red Bull-supported Racing Engineering Team in route to a seventh place finish in the championship standings. In late 2005, Jani represented Switzerland in the new A1GP series capturing the Dubai race and helping the Swiss team to a second place showing in the championship.
