The Cars
The Pontiac GTO.R is a Pratt & Miller designed race car, designed specifically to the rules that govern the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series GT class. Competing under Grand-Am's Prep 2 rules, the GTO.R does battle with legendary cars like the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car, BMW M3, Chevrolet Corvette, Maserati Trofeo Light and Ferrari 360.
Every element of the cars was modeled by Pratt & Miller via simulation prior to being built. The goal of the modeling exercise was to design a racecar that could beat the production-based sportscars in handling and torque. The models have enabled the engineers to create an American-based chassis that is tunable in 20 different dimensions to the complex needs facing the drivers at specific tracks and under changing conditions.
The car is designed around a GM LS2 small-block V-8 engine, and is comprised of a purpose-built tube-frame chassis.
