“Design Thinking” Alive in iRise Labs

Recently, Harvard Business Review published an article on “Design Thinking” (free with registration) by IDEO CEO and President Tim Brown in the June 1, 2008 issue. It covers these areas amongst others:
- Showcases real-world examples that exemplify design thinking (e.g. Thomas Edison’s development process for the phonograph, Kaiser’s reworking their nursing staff shift change process)
- Discusses the evolution of design as a competitive asset
- Highlights the expansion of innovation to services and processes, not just products
Note: In an earlier post by Tom Humbarger, he shared some of Linda Yaven’s views on the topic.
Brown’s article emphasizes the role of iterative cycles and prototyping to achieve innovation more rapidly.
At iRise, we have long espoused the values of whiteboarding the vision for a business application in group ideation sessions. A picture is worth a thousand words and visualizing a concept in 3D brings it to life (in our case, the whiteboard is the digital canvas found in iRise Studio).
With the goal of innovating faster ourselves, today iRise announced iRise Labs, a playground that fosters a beta culture around early-stage products and solutions. The likes of Google, SAP and Nokia have mastered the concept: opening up the technology sandbox for comments from you, the community and customers alike. Take a sneak peak, and more important, weigh in on what you want to see in future iRise products and solutions. Our Labs product developers are just an email away, so don’t be shy.
