iRise Fusion ‘07-Asurion Case Study with Ellen Baker
Posted by Tom Humbarger on October 12th, 2007

Ellen Baker presented a case study in process from her experiences using iRise at Asurion.  Asurion is a privatly held company that offers end-to-end solutions for the telecommunications industry including handset and device protection programs and warranty management to protect customers against loss, theft, damage and malfunction of their wireless devices.

In terms of IT services, Asurion IT is involved in call center applications, risk fraud initiatives, financial apps and HR applications.  They have about 25 business analysts and use an offshore development model with lead developers onsite.  They are involved in about 200 IT projects at any time.

The challenges at Asurion included:  slow project cycles (rework and no traceability),  communications that needed improvement, and different types of development including web pages and IVR call flow.

Asurion lessons learned include:

  • improved traceability – used to miss requirements completely
  • import is simple and reuse is high – all screens are now in shared library in iRise
  • visualization = rework done in planning — able to distribute interactive
  • simulations not limited to screen flows

At Asurion, iDocs have proved to be an invaluable tool for working with business, development and QA teams.  iRise is now the standard for all Conceptual Design documents.

Finally, Ellen noted that her stakeholders love the iRise simulations and that they too are starting to use iRise as a verb.
